I
have been in NUI, Galway since 1988 and have attained
a BA (English & Archaeology), MSc (Applied Computing
and Information Technology), and PhD (Applied Computing
and Information Technology).
I have been lecturing fulltime in the IT Department
since 1996, and part-time for a few years before that,
mainly in the areas of programming, digital image processing and computer graphics.
My interests include:
Computer music;
Writing and playing computer games.
Lecturing
I have taught a wide range of subjects at undergrad and postgrad level over the years, mostly involving some flavour of programming.
Currently, I teach games development in Java and Shiva3D into the Computer Science and IT Degree, Internet Programming to various postgrad degrees,
and Graphics and Image Processing to various undergrad and postgrad degrees.
Research interests include
Digital Image Processing & photogrammetry;
Artificial Intelligence (especially as applied to computer games);
Collaborative Virtual Environments and 'serious games' technologies.
