Prof. Gerry Lyons is Professor of Information Technology at National University of Ireland, Galway (NUIG) Ireland and Head of University’s IT Academic Department. He is also a founder director of the University’s Medical Informatics Research Group. During the past 15 years he has been a key influencer in the development of the ICT sector in Ireland. He holds a doctorate in Engineering and is a Fellow of Engineers Ireland. Gerry has 30 years of experience in academic and industrial research, product development, manufacturing, management and consulting, and is a director of several technology companies. Before joining NUI Galway, Gerry worked as European Research Projects Manager with Digital Equipment Corporation, and earlier worked with national and international research agencies. He is a highly respected international advisor to many of the leading Fortune 100 companies, in the Healthcare, FMCG, Financial Services, ICT and Pharmaceutical sectors, and also works with public sector agencies in Ireland. He is the current President of the Health Informatics Society of Ireland (HISI) and is a founder/director of a university spin-off medical informatics company, Syncrophi Research Ltd.
